Rather than permitting her plight to destroy her, she challenges it with her calm disposition, profound wisdom, and her deep-seated sense of self-esteem. She sends a clear message to the viewer: “That’s what I am, like it or not.” She is an observer of life and people. The humanism of Ella Kogan’s persuasive sculpture asserts her right to a life of dignity and self-respect.
